Conviction

How far would you go to fight for your family?

Based on a true story, it tells the story of single mother spending decades of her life trying to exonerate her wrongfully convicted brother. To do that, Betty Ann who was without a college degree, went on to get law degree while raising her 2 boys and trying all sorts of way to help her brother. Her brother whom already has a record and known in the town as the “bad boy”. In the end, she found this Innocence Project, a nonprofit organization devoted to overturning wrongful convictions, to get DNA testing on the evidence. Bla bla bla…..her brother turned out to be innocent, waited for a few years and finally he was a free man after 20 or so years in prison.

A true story. Kind of make you think that there are such people exist in this world. Around us. That sheer determination. That blind faith (I was thinking, how sure would I be that my brother is innocent if he ever got into this sort of mess) That patience. And what kind of human we have among us to frame a man of such atrocious crime because he/she think less of that guy, and able to get out of it free. How could one sleeps at night?

This is a must-watch movie. Now I know where I could find good films like this. Fox Searchlight Pictures. They tends to make good movies but not well-known except for some: Slumdog millionaire, Once, 500 Days of Summer. I guess, this is meant for the real movie lovers. Because I know, it is so damn hard to find someone who you can talk about this movie, actually interested in listening and really wanting to watch it too. So difficult. But well, that is when this blog come in handy ;)

I’ll end it with something the movie did not tell. Hollywood being Hollywood after all. 6 months after Ken Waters was released from prison, he fell and bumped his head on the way back from his mother’s house. He suffered a severe head trauma and passed away. 6 months after 20 years in prison. Kind of make you think… why??!….how screwed up this universe could get??! The only consolation words we could give to ourselves is… This is life.
